History of the Holloway Terrace
Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Holloway Terrace Volunteer Fire Company was organized on March 5, 1922 with the main purpose of helping the fireman by raising money. The first meeting was held in the home of Mrs. Isabelle Klabe with ten charter members. Mrs. Catherine Hardy was elected the first president. The meetings were then held in different members’ homes until the firehouse was built. Mrs. Klabe went on to be President of the auxiliary in 1923 and 1925.

In the early days very little state aid was given to the fire companies and our way of raising was such as selling Bonnets, Easter Eggs, holding Pie and Milk Socials, Bake and Soup Sales, Suppers and Measuring Parties. We sold Chances, made Quilts, sponsored Rug and Blanket Clubs, held Bingo, Strawberry Festivals and Minstrels. In recent years we continue making money by serving Luncheons, Wedding Receptions, and other special occasions.

The Ladies County Auxiliary was formed at the Holloway Terrace Fire Company on October 7, 1931 with one of our members, Mrs. Alice Stevenson being elected the first President. Two other Ladies Auxiliary members went onto serve as County President. Mrs. Bertha Carlisle went on to serve as President to the State Association in 1951 and Barbara Rossiter serving as President in 2006.

The Ladies Auxiliary have also helped with many community projects over the years, such as to canvass for buses to run through the community, worked for the installation of street lights, a Park for the children, and collected for community flowers for deceased friends. The ladies served treats and held Christmas parties for the children each year until the P.T.A. was formed. The ladies still hold their Annual Christmas Party for the children of the firehouse family. The ladies took treats and entertainment to the veterans at Perry Point and served breakfast at the USO. Today the ladies still continue to support our service men and woman by sending care packages to our members that are in the service.

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Holloway Terrace Fire Company continues to support and be proud of our fire company. The Ladies totally support the firemen by rendering friendliness, cooperation, and assistance to them by participating in the good and welfare of the fire company though various projects and activities.
